Bowel Preparation for Colonoscopy

Satisfactory bowel preparation is important to ensure your colonoscopy is successful. A colon clear of residual stool and food ensures the best quality examination to detect polyps (precancerous lesions) and other abnormalities.

Note:

  • If you are taking iron tablets, please stop them one week before your procedure
  • Please discuss with your gastroenterologist if you are taking blood thinning medications, have any medication allergies, have heart valve disease or have a pacemaker or defibrillator
  • Other medications should be taken as usual with a sip of water in the early morning on the day of the procedure
